Unrestricted Wi-Fi access has been implemented throughout the entire emirate as part of an innovative initiative launched by the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) in Abu Dhabi.
This ambitious endeavour aims to enhance connectivity for both residents and visitors in various public spaces, including parks, beaches, and buses.
Broad Coverage Through Collaborative Partnerships:
The DMT has collaborated with leading UAE service providers to ensure expansive Wi-Fi coverage. Currently, 19 public parks in Abu Dhabi, 11 in Al Ain, and 14 in the Al Dhafra Region offer free Wi-Fi, with plans to extend the service to popular destinations like Abu Dhabi Corniche Beach and Al Bateen Beach in the near future.
Chairman's Perspective on Connectivity:
Mohamed Ali Al Shorafa, Chairman of DMT, expressed satisfaction with the introduction of this service, emphasising its crucial role in providing seamless connectivity across diverse locations. Al Shorafa underscored Abu Dhabi's notable 13th position in the IMD Smart City Index 2023, highlighting the emirate's commitment to core values such as transparency, innovation, inclusivity, and sustainability. This achievement signifies Abu Dhabi's dedication to advancing smart city development.
Smart City Impact and Vision:
The implementation of free Wi-Fi aligns with Abu Dhabi's broader vision of becoming a smart city. This strategic move not only improves the overall experience for residents and tourists but also contributes to the city's global reputation for smart urban planning. The DMT's proactive approach reflects its commitment to innovation and connectivity, paving the way for a digitally empowered and interconnected community.
As Abu Dhabi prioritises smart city initiatives, the introduction of free Wi-Fi in key locations marks a significant stride towards creating a more connected and technologically advanced urban environment. This initiative not only enhances the quality of life for the community but also positions Abu Dhabi as a global leader in smart city development.
