UAE issues a decision regarding green jobs for residents and citizens of the country

ahmed atef - | Arab News

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization disclosed that the rise in "green jobs" to over 11% of all private sector jobs in the nation was primarily responsible for the labor market's decline in unemployment rates to their lowest points.

This was brought about by the state's efforts to expand clean energy projects, which led to the adoption of a comprehensive package of policies that support the creation and diversification of job opportunities and raise employment rates in light of the global labor markets' climate changes.

The ambitious goals of the UAE centenary

As one of the ambitious goals of the UAE Centennial 2071, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization confirmed in detail that the UAE is making steady progress towards a diversified economy based on knowledge and innovation. It also noted that the UAE is distinguished by a suite of competitive and flexible labor market laws and policies that support achieving sustainable economic growth and improve the economy's capacity to create millions of decent jobs.

According to international reports, the ministry claimed in the most recent edition of its magazine "labor market" that the UAE's labor market policies have made the country a desirable place to live, work, and invest. It further explained that the employment growth rate in the labor market in the nation has surpassed 10%.

The ministry noted that due to state initiatives, the growth of clean energy projects with investments of roughly AED 600 billion until 2050, and the high percentage of green jobs in the UAE labor market—which account for more than 11% of all jobs in the private sector in the nation—the unemployment rates in the nation have dropped to their lowest levels, which were 2.9%.

In keeping with its arduous efforts to address the phenomenon of climate change, the ministry claims that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has adopted a comprehensive package of policies that will help provide and diversify job opportunities, increase employment rates, achieve a fair transition for workers on its land in light of the climate changes witnessed by the global labor markets, and enhance the economic prosperity of the country.

it noted that the UAE is leading the way in embracing modern technology as a catalyst for the development of the circular economy and the creation of green jobs, citing the importance of paying particular attention to women workers, who are disproportionately impacted by changes in labor markets brought about by the adoption of modern technology and the shift to a green service (savings system) to ensure that workers will continue to enjoy a decent standard of living in the face of job changes brought on by the economic effects of climate change.

According to data from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization's labor market observatory, 11.69% of all jobs registered in the private sector in the United Arab Emirates in 2023 were classified as green jobs. This indicates that the majority of green jobs in the labor market are concentrated in five main sectors: manufacturing, construction, scientific and professional activities, information and communications, sanitation activities, and waste management and treatment.

The growth of the green jobs sector is one of the keystones supporting the global effort to confront the consequences of climate change and move toward renewable energy sources. The UAE appears to be meeting this fundamental need.

In recent years, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has been able to solidify its standing as a global leader in the creation of green economy systems and strategies. It is now considered to be among the top nations in the world for its support of climate change mitigation efforts and realistic model development.

5 "green" goals

The United Arab Emirates' National Green Agenda (2030) is a long-term plan aimed at achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and transforming the nation's economy into a greener one. The agenda focuses on the execution and monitoring of programs and initiatives designed to maximize the anticipated benefits of the country's shift to a green economy by 2030.

The UN Environment Program defines "green jobs" as those that help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, waste and pollution, energy and raw material consumption, ecosystem protection and restoration, and the ability of communities and businesses to adapt to climate change.

The competitive knowledge economy, social development and quality of life, sustainable environment and the value of natural resources, clean energy and climate change adaptation, green living, and sustainable resource use are the five strategic objectives of the National Green Agenda.

Human resources and Emiratization

The labor market policies and laws in the United Arab Emirates are competitive and adaptable, promoting long-term economic growth.
