A number of roads in Dubai and the surrounding area were closed on Sunday, and the UAE has now explained why.
In order to make way for the Dubai Marathon, the routes and Transport Authority (RTA) announced that certain routes in the Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim neighborhoods will be blocked from early in the morning until one in the afternoon.
UAE Road Closures for the Dubai Marathon
These road restrictions were made necessary because of the Dubai Marathon, which is set to start at 6 a.m. and end at 1 p.m. Sections of Umm Suqeim Street, Jumeirah Beach Road, and Al Wasl Road would be disrupted; however, precise facts regarding these routes were not fully divulged.
Marathon Route Highlights
The RTA brought attention to the runners participating in the 2024 edition of the oldest international marathon in the Middle East by sharing a video of the marathon route map. The marathon, covering a distance of 42.195 kilometers, is recognized as the world's oldest international marathon. The course, featuring iconic landmarks such as Jumeirah Beach Road, Burj Al Arab, and Madinat properties, will both commence and conclude on Umm Suqeim Road near the Dubai Police Academy.
Inclusive Categories and Fun Run
Beyond the professional marathon, participants include expert and amateur runners in the 10-kilometer category. Additionally, a 4-kilometer fun run is designed for novices and hobbyists to join the event.
Global Attraction of the 2024 Dubai Marathon
Sanctioned by the Dubai Sports Council, the 2024 Dubai Marathon is anticipated to draw a significant number of athletes globally, including emerging stars, debutants, and elite athletes. The course's generally flat terrain is expected to facilitate quick completion times for both elite and regular runners.
As road closures are a temporary inconvenience for residents, the event showcases the UAE's commitment to hosting prestigious international sporting events and attracting diverse talent to its vibrant landscape.
