The Abu Dhabi Family, Civil, and Administrative Claims Court recently rendered a verdict regarding a legal dispute between a man and a woman, resulting in the woman being ordered to compensate the man with 2,000 dirhams for both material and emotional damages inflicted upon him through her actions.
This ruling stemmed from an incident where the woman insulted the man, leading to his decision to seek restitution through legal channels. Additionally, the court dismissed the woman's counterclaim, in which she accused the man of harassing her via WhatsApp.
The man initiated the lawsuit, seeking 15,000 dirhams in compensation for both tangible and intangible harm resulting from the woman's actions. He argued that the woman's insults had caused him significant distress, leading to his decision to pursue legal action against her. In response, the woman filed a counterclaim, seeking the dismissal of the man's lawsuit and demanding 15,000 dirhams in compensation herself. She alleged that the man had invaded her privacy by entering her property without consent and had further harassed her through inappropriate messages on WhatsApp.
The court's ruling emphasized the necessity for a clear connection between the original claim and any counterclaims presented. In this case, the court deemed the woman's counterclaim unrelated to the man's initial complaint, as they addressed different incidents and legal issues. The court also took note of the woman's prior criminal trial conviction for her actions against the man, which added further context to the case.
As a result, the court rejected the woman's counterclaim and ruled in favor of the man, ordering the woman to pay him 2,000 dirhams in compensation. Additionally, the court mandated that the woman cover the legal fees and expenses incurred throughout the proceedings. This verdict underscores the importance of establishing a clear connection between claims presented in legal disputes and highlights the court's commitment to upholding justice and fairness in such matters.
