Today, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) unveiled a crucial bridge within the expansive project to enhance the intersection of Jarn Al Sabkha Street with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, marking a significant milestone in the infrastructure development of Dubai.
Unveiling the Main Bridge
This ambitious undertaking encompasses the construction of four bridges spanning a total length of 2,874 meters, designed to accommodate a staggering 17,600 vehicles per hour. The newly inaugurated bridge, stretching 666 meters, boasts two lanes and has a capacity of approximately 3,200 vehicles per hour.
Mattar Al Tayer, the RTA Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Directors, heralded the completion of 90% of the intersection development project, emphasizing its alignment with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to fortify the city's road network infrastructure in tandem with its burgeoning urban landscape and population growth. The strategic significance of Jarn Al Sabkha Street as a vital conduit linking key thoroughfares like Sheikh Zayed and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Streets underscores its pivotal role in facilitating seamless traffic flow across the emirate.
Al Tayer underscored the project's transformative impact on travel efficiency, projecting a 40% reduction in travel time for commuters navigating from Jarn Al Sabkha Street to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road towards Al Qusais and Deira, slashing peak-hour commute times from 20 to 12 minutes. Similarly, travel durations from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Street to Al Yalayis Street, en route to Jebel Ali Port, are anticipated to plummet by 70%, from 21 to 7 minutes.
At the heart of the project are four meticulously designed bridges, each strategically positioned to optimize traffic flow and minimize congestion. The first bridge, spanning 943 meters, facilitates unhindered traffic movement between Jarn Al Sabkha Street and Al Asayel Street, accommodating 8,000 vehicles per hour in both directions. The subsequent bridges, ranging from 601 to 666 meters in length, seamlessly connect Jarn Al Sabkha Street with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Street and Al Yalayis Street, offering crucial conduits for northbound and eastward traffic, respectively.
Beyond the bridges, the project encompasses an array of ancillary enhancements, including over seven kilometers of roadworks, surface intersection enhancements along the adjacent service road, and comprehensive lighting, signaling, and drainage systems. This holistic approach reflects the RTA's commitment to bolstering Dubai's transportation infrastructure to meet the evolving needs of its dynamic landscape.
Toward a Sustainable Transportation Ecosystem
Notably, the development of the Jarn Al Sabkha Street intersection forms part of the RTA's broader strategy to revitalize strategic arterial routes, exemplified by the successful completion of projects like Al Yalayis Street and Expo Street. These initiatives have not only alleviated congestion but have also catalyzed economic development and urban expansion along these vital corridors, ensuring the seamless movement of goods and people across Dubai's ever-expanding urban fabric.
The inauguration of the main bridge at the Jarn Al Sabkha Street intersection symbolizes Dubai's unwavering commitment to innovation and progress, setting the stage for enhanced connectivity, efficiency, and sustainability in the city's transportation ecosystem.
