Due to anticipated unstable weather conditions, Dubai authorities have mandated that all private schools transition to online learning on Thursday, May 2, and Friday, May 3.
This precautionary measure aims to safeguard the well-being of both educators and students nationwide.
The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) has confirmed that this directive applies to all private educational institutions, including schools, nurseries, and universities, ensuring a unified approach across the educational sector.
Ahead of this announcement, several Dubai private schools had already informed parents about the potential implementation of distance learning protocols and prepared their administrative infrastructure accordingly in anticipation of adverse weather conditions.
Last month, government schools made a similar transition to online learning on April 16 in response to an unprecedented storm that swept across the UAE. During this period, private schools also adhered to distance learning, with the initiative extended for several days due to the lingering effects of inclement weather. In emirates like Sharjah, where residents endured prolonged rainfall impacts, students continued with distance and hybrid learning until Monday, April 29, when most resumed in-person classes.
While the impending weather outlook differs from the previous rainfall event experienced on April 16, forecasts suggest moderate to heavy rainfall in scattered areas, potentially accompanied by lightning, thunder, and a chance of hail.
The National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority has affirmed its readiness for the anticipated weather conditions, with officials convening to discuss precautionary measures and ensure the preparedness of relevant entities to mitigate any potential risks associated with the unstable weather.
