Speaking at the International Air Transport Association's (IATA) annual general meeting in Dubai, Griffiths criticized the existing practice of funneling all passengers through a single security and immigration point as a symptom of what he termed the "lazy airport operator syndrome." This approach results in queues, extensive walking distances, and wasted time.
Griffiths outlined a new paradigm for airport design, with the Al Maktoum International airport set to become operational within a decade. The airport will employ a re-engineered approach, featuring multiple security and passport control points distributed throughout the facility to alleviate congestion and streamline the passenger journey.
