The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai has issued a warning to drivers, urging them to keep their cars in good repair and to get them examined frequently, especially in the summer when traffic is predicted to surge.
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority announcement
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has issued a strong advisory for motorists to ensure their vehicles are well-maintained and regularly inspected, especially during the summer season when an increase in road travel is anticipated. This initiative underscores the necessity of proper vehicle upkeep to mitigate the risk of sudden mechanical failures, which can lead to traffic accidents.
Critical Maintenance Areas
The RTA has highlighted several critical areas for vehicle maintenance. Drivers are urged to routinely check the condition of their tires, brakes, oils, cooling fluids, air conditioning systems, batteries, lights, and windshield wipers. Additionally, they should inspect their vehicles for any oil or water leaks. This advice is part of a broader campaign to ensure road safety during the hotter months.
To enhance public awareness, the RTA has launched educational campaigns in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior as part of the “Safe Summer” initiative. These campaigns aim to remind vehicle owners of the importance of regular maintenance and the potential hazards of neglecting it. The RTA emphasizes that while annual vehicle inspections are mandatory for ownership renewal, continuous and regular checks throughout the year are the driver's responsibility.
Bader Al Siri, Executive Director of Traffic at the RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency, highlighted the critical role of regular vehicle inspection and maintenance in ensuring road safety and preventing accidents. He outlined Dubai’s traffic safety strategy, which is structured around four pillars: traffic enforcement, road and vehicle engineering, traffic awareness, and the management of vehicle movements. This comprehensive approach aims to enhance overall traffic safety and reduce accident rates.
To disseminate these important safety messages, the RTA has developed a plan to broadcast awareness content to drivers, emphasizing that vehicle safety is crucial not only for the driver but also for passengers and all road users. These messages are being promoted through various channels, including social media, customer service centers of partners such as driving institutes, car dealerships, and shopping malls.
The initiative is a proactive measure by the RTA to ensure that the increase in road travel during the summer does not lead to a spike in traffic accidents due to vehicle failures. By encouraging motorists to conduct thorough and regular maintenance checks, the RTA aims to foster a culture of safety and responsibility among drivers in Dubai.
Al Siri also noted that these efforts are part of a larger strategy to manage vehicle movements across Dubai's roads efficiently. The RTA's focus on vehicle maintenance is one aspect of a broader effort to improve road safety through a combination of enforcement, engineering, awareness, and management.
The RTA’s advisory highlights the critical importance of vehicle maintenance during the summer months. By educating the public and promoting regular checks, the RTA aims to reduce the risk of accidents and ensure a safer travel experience for all road users in Dubai. The collaboration with the Ministry of Interior and the strategic dissemination of safety messages underscore the RTA’s commitment to road safety and accident prevention.
