Dubai witnessed a crackdown by the police on drivers violating traffic safety regulations during the National Day celebrations, resulting in fines and vehicle confiscations.
Dubai Police Take Strict Action Against National Day Traffic Violations
From careless driving to unlicensed parades, a whopping 4,420 infractions were recorded, resulting in the seizure of ninety-four vehicles.
Decree 30 Penalties:
Maj-Gen Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, stressed that those violating the rules could encounter the strict consequences outlined in Decree 30. These consequences may involve the impoundment of their vehicles, and fines could go up to Dh50,000 for the release of the impounded vehicle.
Hotspots for Violations:
The majority of recorded violations were concentrated in Al Ruwayyah, Jumeirah, and various residential areas. Some drivers caused disturbances in desert camps by engaging in reckless stunts and playing loud music from their car stereos. Others obstructed traffic, had illegally modified vehicles, and made unlicensed engine changes.
Diverse Range of Offences:
In addition to reckless driving, the offences included overloading vehicles, protruding heads from windows and sunroofs, using party spray, obscuring licence plates, changing vehicle colour, and tinting or colouring front windows.
Parental Vigilance Advocate:
Maj-Gen Al Mazrouei urged parents to closely monitor their youths' driving behaviours, emphasising that parental supervision is crucial in fostering positive behaviours and reducing serious traffic accidents, fatalities, and severe injuries on the roads.
Penalties and Implications:
The strict penalties, as per Decree 30, aim to deter individuals from engaging in dangerous driving behaviours, promoting road safety and responsible driving practices. The impounded vehicles serve as a deterrent, highlighting the commitment of Dubai Police to ensuring the safety of residents and visitors during festive celebrations.
The crackdown highlights the need to follow traffic laws, be considerate of public safety, and make roadways safe for everyone. The prompt actions taken by the authorities aim to send a strong message about the consequences of breaking traffic laws during public events and celebrations.
