According to the General Pension and Social Security Administration (GPSSA), approximately 1,382 beneficiaries have accessed the "Shorek" service, out of a total of 3,253 insured individuals whose coverage lapsed on July 1, 2023, subsequent to the announcement of the service's inauguration.
The General Authority for Pensions and Social Security has introduced the "Shorek" service, aimed at streamlining the retirement process for insured citizens in both the government and private sectors. This initiative enables individuals to seamlessly combine previous service periods, ensuring a continuous employment history and facilitating the attainment of retirement pensions.
The "Shorek" Service to Empower Insured Citizens
The General Authority for Pensions and Social Security initiated the "Shorek" service as a pivotal transformational project. It allows insured individuals to merge their previous service periods into subsequent ones, eliminating the financial burden typically associated with such consolidations. By availing of this service, individuals can maintain an uninterrupted service record, thus fulfilling the prerequisites for securing retirement pensions.
Conditions and Procedures for Availing the "Shorek" Service
To benefit from the "Shorek" service, certain conditions must be met. Firstly, applicants must be Emirati citizens employed within government or private sector entities falling under the jurisdiction of the Pensions and Social Security Authority.
Moreover, individuals seeking to incorporate their prior service periods post-July 1, 2023, must opt not to receive end-of-service gratuity payments for inclusion purposes. Additionally, the prospective employer must be affiliated with the Federal Pensions and Social Security Authority, with a signed declaration from the previous employer confirming the non-payment of end-of-service remuneration. Individuals must submit inclusion requests within three months of joining a new employer, ensuring a smooth transition.
Eligibility criteria and exclusions
While the "Shorek" service aims to enhance the financial well-being of insured individuals and their families, certain cases are ineligible for its benefits. These include individuals whose service terminated before July 1, 2023, pensioners, and those with service periods less than one year, as they are not entitled to end-of-service rewards for durations under one year.
The "Shorek" service represents a significant stride towards bolstering retirement benefits and financial stability for insured citizens in the UAE. By simplifying the process of combining previous service periods, it ensures a seamless transition towards securing retirement pensions. However, it is imperative for individuals to thoroughly review the eligibility criteria and adhere to the stipulated procedures to maximize the benefits of the "Shorek" service.
