The penalties for violating pilgrimage instructions will be enforced beginning on June 2 and will continue until June 20.

Saudi authorities enforce strict penalties for illegal Haj activities

Starting June 2 and continuing until June 20, Saudi Arabia is rigorously implementing penalties for violations of Haj pilgrimage regulations. Recently, eight individuals were arrested for transporting 28 pilgrims who lacked valid Haj permits, as reported by the authorities on Friday.

The arrested individuals include three expatriates and five citizens. Each suspect has been fined 10,000 Saudi riyals (approximately Dh9,700) for every illegal pilgrim transported, culminating in a total fine of 280,000 Saudi riyals (about Dh274,210). Additionally, these individuals will face 15 days in jail and have their vehicles confiscated, according to the Ministry of Interior's announcement on social media platform X.

For the expatriates involved, the consequences extend beyond fines and jail time. They will be deported to their home countries and prohibited from re-entering Saudi Arabia for a specified period, as dictated by the law.

In a separate crackdown, authorities arrested four individuals—two residents and two citizens—for promoting forged Haj permits and visas on social media. These violators were found with various incriminating items, including SIM cards, stamps, mobile phones, computers, and sums of money.

Implementation of New Haj Regulations

The new regulations emphasize the severe repercussions of transporting pilgrims without valid permits. Under these rules, violators face imprisonment for up to six months and fines of up to 50,000 Saudi riyals (around Dh49,000). Moreover, citizens, residents, and visitors performing haj without a permit will incur a fine of 10,000 Saudi riyals, or approximately Dh9,000.

Saudi authorities are urging all citizens and residents to adhere strictly to Haj regulations. The aim is to ensure the pilgrimage remains safe, secure, and comfortable for all participants. These stringent measures reflect the kingdom’s commitment to maintaining the sanctity and order of the Haj pilgrimage.

By enforcing these regulations and penalties, Saudi Arabia seeks to deter illegal activities related to Haj and uphold the integrity of the pilgrimage. The Ministry of Interior continues to monitor and act against any violations to safeguard the experience for legitimate pilgrims.

The authorities’ proactive approach underscores the importance of compliance with Haj guidelines, emphasizing that the pilgrimage is a significant religious event that requires adherence to established protocols for the safety and well-being of all involved.

In addition to enforcing penalties, Saudi authorities are also focusing on raising awareness among the community about the importance of adhering to Haj regulations. Educational campaigns are being conducted to inform citizens and residents about the legal requirements and the severe consequences of violating them.

The authorities are working closely with local media and social platforms to disseminate information and encourage compliance. Future measures may include increased surveillance and additional checkpoints to further prevent illegal activities, ensuring that the pilgrimage process remains orderly and respectful for all participants. By fostering a culture of awareness and compliance, Saudi Arabia aims to protect the sanctity of the Haj and provide a safe and fulfilling experience for genuine pilgrims.
