The UAE's digital government has introduced a pivotal change in its policy regarding residence visas for expatriates and their families.
Employment status is no longer a prerequisite for sponsoring family visas, marking a significant departure from previous regulations. This move emphasizes the country's commitment to facilitating family unity and inclusivity among its foreign residents. Individuals residing in the UAE can now sponsor residence visas for their families, provided they hold valid residencies themselves.
To qualify for family sponsorship, certain criteria must be met. The sponsor must demonstrate a minimum monthly salary of 4,000 dirhams, or 3,000 dirhams, with accommodation provided. This requirement ensures that sponsors have the financial means to support their families while residing in the UAE.
Every member of the family who is 18 years old or older must also go through a medical fitness test at one of the authorized medical facilities. This safety measure protects the general population by making sure that sponsored family members are healthy enough to live in the nation.
Exceptions to the sponsorship rule allow mothers to sponsor their children in specific cases determined by the Federal Authority. Furthermore, residents have the option to sponsor their parents annually, regardless of their own length of stay in the UAE. However, transitioning from a temporary entry permit to a residence visa must be completed within a maximum period of 60 days of entering the country.
Medical fitness is a crucial aspect of the residency process. Individuals must undergo thorough medical examinations, with specific attention given to pulmonary tuberculosis. Exceptions may be made for individuals with old or inactive tuberculosis, provided they are under supervision. These measures ensure the overall well-being of residents and contribute to maintaining a healthy living environment.
The government has established designated centers across Abu Dhabi and Dubai to facilitate physical fitness examinations and other residency-related procedures. Additionally, electronic channels such as e-channels and mobile applications streamline the visa application process, making it more accessible and efficient for residents.
Since the implementation of the updated visa system in October 2022, the UAE has demonstrated its commitment to offering diverse residency options tailored to various categories of individuals. By separating residency from employment and enhancing the overall quality of life for residents, the UAE aims to create an attractive environment for living, working, and investing.
