UAE: Obtaining a Vehicle Permit for Trips Outside Country, fees, eligibility

asmaa - | Arab News

This document ensures the seamless execution of your travel plans, granting you the freedom to journey across state borders without hindrance.

Facilitating seamless travel across borders

Whether you're gearing up for an exhilarating cross-country road trip or embarking on a leisurely exploration of neighboring regions, securing a tourist vehicle certificate is paramount for both UAE citizens and expatriates alike. This essential document serves as a safeguard against potential legal impediments, ensuring a hassle-free travel experience.

The tourist vehicle certificate validates your vehicle's compliance with safety and regulatory standards, allowing you to cross state lines. Prior to embarking on your journey, it is imperative to ensure that all requisite documentation is in order, including obtaining an International Driving License (IDL), which is indispensable for navigating foreign roads with ease.

Understanding eligibility and requirements

The issuance of the Tourist Vehicle Certificate facilitates travel to and from the UAE in a registered vehicle designated for tourism or official purposes within the GCC. To assist prospective applicants in navigating the application process smoothly, a comprehensive checklist has been provided for reference.

Eligibility for this service extends to UAE citizens, GCC nationals, residents, diplomats, companies, governmental entities, and diplomatic bodies based in Dubai. The validity of the certificate spans six months, ensuring ample time for planned excursions.

In Dubai, the service fees for acquiring the tourist vehicle certificate vary depending on the type and size of the vehicle. Light vehicles, motorcycles, and those weighing between 3 and 12 tons incur a fee of Dh100, while vehicles exceeding 12 tons are subject to a Dh200 fee. Additionally, light and heavy mechanical equipment are charged Dh100 and Dh200, respectively, with buses carrying varying passenger capacities incurring corresponding fees.

A set of mandatory documents must be furnished during the application process through Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). For citizens and GCC nationals, this includes an eNOC from the mortgagor, if applicable, along with the original Emirates ID and an eNOC from the Automobile & Touring Club of the UAE (ATCUAE). Similarly, residents and companies are required to provide specific documentation tailored to their respective statuses.

Residents have the option to apply for the vehicle permit through the RTA website, streamlining the application process for added convenience. Alternatively, travelers can visit designated Customer Happiness Centers or Vehicle Registration and Inspection Centers across the emirate to initiate the application process in person.

Upon submission of the requisite documents and settlement of the prescribed fees, applicants can expect to receive the tourist vehicle certificate promptly. However, adherence to specified terms and conditions is imperative to ensure a smooth transaction. These include personal presence during the application process, settlement of outstanding traffic fines, and compliance with relevant regulations pertaining to vehicle ownership and operation.

The acquisition of a tourist vehicle certificate is a fundamental prerequisite for individuals seeking to embark on cross-border journeys from the UAE. By adhering to the prescribed procedures and furnishing the requisite documentation, travelers can navigate the application process seamlessly, thereby facilitating uninterrupted travel across state lines for tourism or official purposes within the GCC.
