The rulers of the Emirates have ordered the release of nearly 3,000 prisoners ahead of Eid al-Adha 2024. This gesture is in recognition of the prisoners' good conduct and behavior during their sentences, reflecting the rulers' commitment to mercy and rehabilitation.
Initiating the procedure on Friday, June 14, the Ruler of Umm Al Quwain and Member of the Supreme Council, Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mualla, ordered the release of prisoners from correctional and penal facilities inside his emirate. Other emirates will likely follow this example of clemency.
On Thursday, June 13, President Sheikh Mohamed ordered the release of 1,138 prisoners who had been sentenced in various cases. Notably, the President also ensured the payment of any fines owed by these inmates, removing financial barriers to their reintegration into society. This comprehensive approach highlights the president's dedication to facilitating a smooth transition for these individuals back into their communities.
The UAE's Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, also released 686 prisoners from prisons that day. Counselor Issam Issa Al Humaidan, the Attorney General of Dubai, verified that the Public Prosecution immediately started working with the Dubai Police General Command to execute the release orders, guaranteeing a prompt and effective procedure.
Ras Al Khaimah's ruler and Supreme Council member, Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, has released 481 prisoners. In making this choice, the emirate has shown once again how serious it is about giving people a second chance.
Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, a Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman, directed the release of 223 inmates from correctional and penal facilities at the Ajman Police General Headquarters. This act of mercy aligns with the spirit of Eid al-Adha, emphasizing forgiveness and renewal.
The discharging of 352 prisoners from the penal and correctional facilities in the emirate was decreed by Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi, a Sharjah ruler and member of the Supreme Council. The goal of this change is to make it easier for formerly incarcerated people to rejoin society and find gainful employment.
The release of ninety-four inmates of different nationalities was decreed by Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, a member of the Supreme Council and ruler of Fujairah. This all-inclusive strategy embodies the emirate's dedication to justice and recovery.

National Holiday for Eid Al-Adha
In observance of Arafah Day and Eid Al Adha, the UAE has declared paid holidays for public and private sector employees from Saturday, June 15, until Tuesday, June 18. Arafah Day, the holiest day in Islam, falls on June 15, and the three-day Eid Al Adha holiday (Dhul Hijjah 10 to 12) will be officially marked from June 16 to 18. This creates a four-day break, allowing for both religious observance and family gatherings.
