Sharjah has announced that all schools in the emirate will engage in distance learning on May 2 and 3 due to the prevailing unstable weather conditions, as reported by Sharjah News.
This decision underscores the commitment to prioritize the safety and well-being of both teachers and students within the emirate.
This initiative mirrors a similar directive issued by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) for private schools in Dubai, which also mandated online learning on May 2 and 3.
The decision to implement distance learning follows the response to last month's historic storm that swept across the UAE, prompting schools to transition to online learning on April 16. Private schools also adopted distance learning protocols during this period, with the duration extended due to the lingering effects of the adverse weather conditions.
In Sharjah and other affected emirates, where residents experienced prolonged rainfall impacts, students continued to engage in distance and hybrid learning until April 29, when most resumed in-person classes.
While meteorological experts from the National Center of Meteorology (NCM) have indicated that the impending weather scenario may not replicate the intensity of the rainfall observed on April 16, forecasts suggest moderate to heavy rainfall in scattered areas, occasionally accompanied by lightning, thunder, and a potential for hail.
In preparation for the anticipated weather conditions, the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority has affirmed its readiness. Officials have convened meetings to discuss precautionary measures and ensure the preparedness of relevant entities to mitigate any potential risks associated with the unstable weather.
