UAE announces Eid Al Adha 2024 Paid Holidays
The UAE government has announced official paid holidays for Eid Al-Adha for both the public and private sectors, following a decision by the Cabinet. The dates for the break were revealed, with Eid Al-Adha set to occur on the following days:
- Arafat Day: Dhu Al Hijjah 9, corresponding to June 15
- Eid Al Adha 2024: Dhu Al Hijjah 10 to 12, corresponding to June 16, 17, and 18
These dates were officially communicated on June 8 by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) and the UAE Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR).
Eid al-Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, holds significant religious importance in the Islamic calendar. During this period, special prayers, communal feasts, and acts of charity are observed by Muslims worldwide.
The announcement of paid holidays for Eid Al Adha underscores the UAE's commitment to facilitating the celebration of important religious occasions for its residents, both in the public and private sectors. This decision reflects the government's recognition of the cultural and religious diversity within the country and its efforts to ensure inclusivity and respect for various faiths.
Eid al-Adha, which commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God's command, is marked by a spirit of generosity, gratitude, and community. Muslims traditionally gather for prayers at mosques, followed by the sacrifice of an animal, typically a sheep, goat, or cow, symbolizing Ibrahim's obedience and devotion to God. The meat from the sacrificed animal is then distributed among family, friends, and the less fortunate, emphasizing the importance of sharing and compassion.
The Eid holidays provide an opportunity for families and communities to come together, strengthen bonds, and celebrate their faith and traditions. It is a time of joy, reflection, and spiritual renewal as Muslims express gratitude for their blessings and reaffirm their commitment to serving others.
The announcement of Eid Al-Adha holidays also serves as a reminder of the values of unity, solidarity, and mutual respect that underpin the UAE's multicultural society. By granting paid leave for this important religious observance, the government acknowledges the significance of religious festivals in the lives of its residents and promotes an environment of understanding and harmony.
As preparations for Eid al-Adha begin, residents across the UAE look forward to participating in the festivities, cherishing moments of togetherness, and embodying the spirit of compassion and generosity that defines this auspicious occasion.
