During the awareness campaign launched by Sharjah Police in the United Arab Emirates, the police asked residents to follow some preventive measures to reduce the theft of personal property from cars.
Sharjah Police launched an awareness campaign called “Your Groups, Your Responsibility,” which launched today and will continue until the end of this month.
Objectives of the awareness campaign
The campaign launched by Sharjah Police in the United Arab Emirates urged citizens and residents of the country to avoid the following:
- Avoid leaving valuables inside the car in the open.
- Avoid leaving vehicles in isolated places.
- Installing car alarms.
During its awareness campaign, Sharjah Police called on residents to cooperate with the security authorities and limit behaviors that create suitable conditions for the theft of car contents, which may constitute an incentive for vulnerable souls to steal these items from cars.
It is worth noting that last year, Sharjah Police warned online car sellers of fraudsters, who deposit fraudulent networks, and Sharjah Police launched an awareness campaign urging residents not to share personal or banking details with unknown sources.
It is necessary to stop the engine and close the car
An awareness video that was broadcast on the digital platforms of the Sharjah Police Department explained the importance of turning off the engine and ensuring that the car is properly locked. The reason for this is that failing to lock the car makes it easier for it to be stolen. The police also mentioned that many vehicles are vulnerable to theft because they are parked in a dark and isolated location, which makes them vulnerable to theft even though they are not stolen. No one takes notice.
She made the point that placing valuables in an exposed location inside the vehicle encourages those with weak minds to steal, which is something that should be avoided. She also urged people to not hesitate to immediately report anything that raises suspicion and to phone 80040 to report it immediately.
One year imprisonment for thieves
The legislation states that "a penalty of imprisonment for a period of no less than one year shall be imposed if the theft occurs in any of the following circumstances: in a means of transportation or at a station, port, or airport." This provision may be found in Article 389, paragraph 3, of the law.
Consequently, the legislator in the Emirates has increased the penalty for the crime of theft by land, water, or air transportation. According to Article 384 of the Penal Code, the crime is now classified as a felony that is punishable by life imprisonment. Additionally, the convict has been placed in one of the penal facilities that have been designated by law for the purpose of carrying out this particular offense.
