Two traffic safety specialists have outlined guidelines for safe driving in rainy conditions, emphasizing their importance.
Alaeddin Sobhi Daoud, Director General of the National Institute for Traffic Safety, highlighted the significant role of the human element, vehicle condition, and road quality in ensuring traffic safety. He underscored the need for drivers to be aware of road rules, their vehicle's technical state, and road conditions, as these factors greatly influence traffic outcomes.
Daoud specified key instructions for driving in rain, including avoiding low-lying areas, staying updated on weather forecasts, pulling over in safe locations, using low-beam lights, and maintaining a safe distance between vehicles.
Retired Brigadier General Jamal Al-Amiri, a traffic expert, emphasized the importance of vehicle readiness before venturing out in rainy weather. He advised inspecting tires for damage, ensuring wipers are functional, and maintaining proper air conditioning for internal comfort and visibility.
Al-Amiri cautioned against misuse of hazard lights and urged drivers to choose the middle lane for smoother traffic flow, especially in adverse weather. He emphasized the importance of activating hazard lights, pulling over safely, and using warning triangles if a vehicle breaks down. Furthermore, he advised seeking weather updates from official sources.
The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority issued preventative measures for driving in rain, including reducing speed, increasing following distance, and using lights and hazard signals appropriately. These guidelines aim to enhance safety and reduce the risk of accidents during inclement weather conditions. By adhering to these recommendations, drivers can minimize the likelihood of accidents and ensure the safety of themselves and others on the road.
